The future of skills development is indisputably in soft-skills, which are part of what has long been called interpersonal skills and which have earned their letters of nobility thanks to a significant professionalization of the disciplines of personal development. But emotional intelligence, relational ecology, empathy, constructive conflictuality, assertiveness , etc., are not taught on the benches of schools and universities.
Fortunately, this is being learned more and more in vocational training. And it is also acquired throughout life outside of work... So, how do you identify your own achievements and how do you have them recognized in the professional field to be able to deploy your full potential ?
1/ Map your extra-professional spaces
There is work where you develop know-how and interpersonal skills, on a daily basis in your practice as well as through training and learning actions... And all the rest of life that teaches us so much : being the child of your parents, the parent of your children, the friend of your friends, a neighbor in your neighborhood, a volunteer and/or an activist in an association, a reader, a fan of movies and series, an avid listener of radio or podcast, a traveller, a person gifted in drawing, manual work, etc.
So start by making your " alter-CV ", forgetting all the diplomas and professional experiences and focusing only on what you have experienced, everything you have participated in... Since you were born !
2/ Identify your extra-professional experience
This first step of listing your extra-professional spaces allows you to identify a whole set of skills. Isn't managing a household the same as managing (by the way, it is useful to remember that manager and housewife have the same etymology !)? Doesn't participating in the life of your children's school mean cooperating in project mode with people who are different from you ?
Doesn't knowing how to cook mean having a sense of algorithms ? Yes ! Yes ! A cooking recipe is precisely an algorithm, i.e. a series of organized actions that make it possible to transform units into a whole. Doesn't doing work at home mean having engineering and implementation capabilities? Isn't travelling a way to train your curiosity and get rid of a certain number of stereotypical reflexes ? By participating in the activities of a mixed network or an association, don't we develop assertiveness, communication skills, creativity, the ability to engage others, etc.?
3/ Analyze one's desires and opportunities for transposing extra-professional knowledge into the professional world
Of course, not all skills acquired in private life are necessarily acquired by taste or choice (we think, for example, of the arts of household chores and other domestic chores!). It is therefore rather those that we acquire and practice with enthusiasm that we must prioritize in the project of aligning appetites, skills and ambitions. Don't hesitate to write the job description of your dreams based on what you like to do, what you feel good at, what you want to go for, the type of missions you would like to work on more and more often...
4/ Assert your extra-professional experience in the world of work
All that remains is to make his ambitions heard by his professional entourage... And to convince him that we have the means to do so. To make the most of your extra-professional experience, you must first communicate about it: do not hesitate to talk about your passions and life experiences during recruitment and evaluation interviews; take advantage of moments of informality at work to " tell oneself " in a different light from the one known to colleagues and management ; Invest in the life of the collective by showing off your hidden talents!
But once revealed, these extra-professional skills do not automatically give access to the job of your dreams, of course. So, it is a question of being proactive and daring to make proposals in the direction of an evolution of one's position or even a retraining : suggest " inspiration-sharing " meetings to allow everyone to share their knowledge developed in environments other than work, offer to conduct a pilot mission in connection with their extra-professional skills, Getting into intrapreneurship...
5/ Plan the professionalization of one's extra-professional skills
To truly align one's professional project with one's deep appetites and multiple skills, it may be necessary to follow some training in order to professionalize self-taught skills: gaining methodology, appropriating cutting-edge tools, developing complementary soft-skills, etc.
So, extra-professional skills, it is also good to talk about them with the person in charge of your career management to effectively plan your skills development.
