“Lean in” or Change the Rules? Dealing with Gender Equality in the Workplace

Despite what the Global Gender Gap Report predicts, even in 200 years, will there be equality in the workplace? Studies point to one age old reason for all this: work remains a man’s world, and women bear the brunt of care work. Women today are equally, if not sometimes more, qualified than men. When women, however, have to spend more time on care work, this inevitably penalizes them in a work model that demands 24/7 availability and commitment to work.
Instead of looking to women to “lean in”, it may be time to change the rules.
