The 21st century is often referred to as the Asian century in view of its burgeoning economic development and demographics. While the status of women has been changing with the improvement in education, health and employment, leadership remains male-dominated and there are still few women holding top positions in public and private sectors. This is not so much due to the shortage of female talents as the high drop-out rate in Asian women’s career development, known as the ‘leaking pipeline’ which is largely attributed to the interplay of traditional Asian culture and inadequacy of corporate and social support mechanisms.
