SNCF fights for diversity on all fronts : promoting equality in the workplace, bringing young people and at-risk individuals into workforce, recruiting in low-income neighborhoods, hiring and retaining individuals with disabilities, and hiring seniors.
Recruiting in underprivileged neighborhoods
Since 2006, SNCF expanded its geographical focus, going out into underprivileged neighborhoods to diversify recruitment pool and interview a broader range of candidates.
Over the past six years, SNCF have sponsored 46 Equality & Skills job fairs to identify skills, motivation, and potential and open doors to people who often find it hard to meet with employers — or wouldn’t even apply on their own.
Supporting those who need it most
As a socially responsible business, SNCF builds community by helping the jobless enter the job market. The Chantier école network provides employment for the most disadvantaged and helps them learn job skills by working to maintain rail facilities for six months to a year.
Key figures : in 2010 SNCF operated 37 employment outreach locations and helped 462 people find work.
Women in engineering
SNCF is a partner in Elles Bougent, an association of successful women who help other women find engineering jobs by reaching out regularly to share their career experience. As part of this partnership, SNCF offers a network of some 20 women mentors.
Recruiting employees with disabilities
SNCF already provides accessible environments and specially equipped workstations for over 5,500 employees with disabilities, and training and career development opportunities are the same for everyone.
